Turner Prize-winning Chris Ofili draws inspiration from an eclectic array of popular, artistic, and religious sources such as the Bible, William Blake, blaxploitation films, hip hop, and his Nigerian heritage.

One of the most notorious YBAs (Young British Artists) Ofili’s creations contribute to a complex narrative about African culture, black stereotypes, history, and exoticism.

Since the scandal surrounding the exhibition of The Holy Virgin Mary (1996) at the Brooklyn Museum during the "Sensation" exhibition Ofili has had an impressive international career.

The New Museum (NYC) will host his first US retrospective this month and will feature a dramatic installation of Ofili's beloved Royal Portraits.
